About the Office of Undergraduate Education
The Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education provides support to students and academic units across campus. Our initiatives focus on developing excellence and distinctiveness in arenas that will help us attract and retain the best students while creating a distinctive educational program that will graduate students who can solve problems, communicate effectively, think critically, and have the knowledge and skills to be productive life-long learners, leaders, and global citizens.
Vision
Recruit, educate, challenge, support, and graduate outstanding students.
Mission
Our mission is to provide leadership in creating the premier undergraduate education experience among the nation’s public universities, and to provide outstanding support to students and academic units. We do this in partnership with many other units including all undergraduate colleges, the Office of Student Affairs, the Academic Health Center and Health Careers Center, the Vice Provost for Distributed Education and Instructional Technologies, the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, the Senior Vice President for System Academic Administration, the Vice President and Vice Provost for Equity and Diversity, and the Office of Institutional Research.
All baccalaureate degrees offered by any of the colleges on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus include a set of liberal education requirements. The Council on Liberal Education, a body composed of faculty and student representatives, is responsible for administering the requirements. CLE has made recommendations designed to strengthen the quality of liberal education at the University; the recommendations were approved by the Twin Cities Assembly in April 2008 and will go into effect for students entering the University in fall 2010.
