New scholarship goal is set as milestones are reached

The University is celebrating the success of The Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship Drive. As of October 31, 2006, $151,129,539 has been raised, and at least 6700 students are now being helped with privately funded scholarships and fellowships. The response from alumni and friends to the University’s commitment to increasing student support has been overwhelming. Additionally, the matching programs have provided great incentives for giving.

The University of Minnesota will continue to make student support a priority, and President Bruininks has reaffirmed this commitment by announcing a new goal to double the number of students helped through privately funded scholarships and fellowships. This is an ambitious goal. While some of the increase will come through the growth of endowed funds, student support through fundraising will continue to be emphasized. The University will continue to offer the matching opportunities for endowed scholarships and fellowship, which will help with fundraising.
