Fall 2005 Twin Cities Campus Enrollment Data

The quality of the incoming freshman class at the University of Minnesota continues to improve according to the latest enrollment data released by the University. The numbers show excellent improvement and progress in attracting students who are prepared for the academic challenges of a major research university.

Data used in assessing the quality of new freshman classes show that 73.8 percent of this year’s freshman on the Twin Cities campus came from the top 25 percent of their high school class, which is up from 67.6 percent in 2004. Other measures include:

Top 5% of High School Class

  • 19.1%—fall 2005
  • 17.2%—fall 2004

Top 10% of High School Class

  • 34.0%—fall 2005
  • 30.8%—fall 2004

Average ACT composite score

  • 25.1%—fall 2005
  • 25.0%—fall 2004

National Merit Scholars

  • 58—fall 2005
  • 51—fall 2004

Percentage of students of color

  • 18.5%—fall 2005
  • 18.3%—fall 2004

Regarding Twin Cities campus applications and enrollment, freshman application numbers were:

  • 20,576—fall 2005, an increase of 2000 applications over the fall of 2004
  • Applications to the Twin Cities campus have increased over the past decade by more 70%, while the number of high school graduates in Minnesota has increased by only 20%.
