Applications sought for new subcommittee of the Campus Committee on Student Behavior

Dear University Faculty, P&A Staff, and Students:

As you may know, colleges and universities are subject to significant requirements concerning student Title IX and sexual misconduct cases. The federal Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (Campus SaVE) Act, signed into law in July 2015, stipulates institutional requirements regarding prevention, reporting, timeline, and sexual misconduct hearing processes.

To ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our students, and to comply with legal requirements, I have approved the recommendation made by a workgroup of campus administrators to create a subcommittee of the Campus Committee on Student Behavior (CCSB) that will focus exclusively on student sexual misconduct-related hearings. Subcommittee members will receive 20 hours of training annually to ensure that they are fully prepared to review student sexual misconduct cases and make decisions in accord with the Student Conduct Code.

I invite you to consider applying to be a member of the subcommittee, and I ask you to encourage your colleagues and students who might be interested to apply as well. Subcommittee members will provide a vital service to our University community.

The following links provide information on the application and selection process as well as application information:

Applications will be reviewed beginning on July 25, 2016. There will be two half-day workshops for selected panelists on August 11 and 18, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm. Faculty and staff panel members may need to commit to a three-year service term for this position; this requirement does not apply to students.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this important role.

Sincerely,
Karen Hanson
Executive Vice President and Provost
