New Graduate Fellowship for Students of Color
The Humphrey Institute’s new Krusell Fellowship is the most comprehensive scholarship program in the country for students of color interested in community development. The fellowship funds graduate study in urban and regional planning and public policy programs. Krusell Fellows are recruited from diverse backgrounds and receive a full scholarship for the two years of their academic program, plus three paid fieldwork placements. The fellowship is named for the late Charles R. Krusell, a champion for Twin Cities public housing and a tireless advocate for urban renewal.
Minor in Health Disparities
The School of Public Health is offering a new interdisciplinary minor in Health Disparities. The minor is intended to broaden public health students’ understanding of the growing crisis in the American health care system related to the lack of access to care among minorities and the underrepresentation of people of color in the health care workforce.
Research on Equal Opportunity for Students with Disabilites
A study by researchers in the College of Education and Human Development has found that some graduation policies may prevent high school students with disabilities from pursuing equal opportunities as their classmates. The study also reports that more students with disabilities are participating in the general education curriculum and achieving results, and that preparation for adult life and future independence is improved by accessing postsecondary education and employment.
