OED units are the recipients of two of the five Service and Process Improvement Fund grants given for the 2008-09 year by the Office of Service and Continuous Improvement. A $49,080 grant was awarded to Disability Services, in partnership with the Graduate School, to bring a new workflow software system to the University; the Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action was awarded $25,000 to develop improved recruiting and resource listings on its website to attract a more diverse applicant pool for open University positions. The SPIF grants program was created by President Robert Bruininks to support initiatives that help drive success of the University’s aspiration to become a top three university.
On April 16, more than 120 higher education professionals from across the United States participated in a webinar presented by Vice President and Vice Provost Rusty Barceló entitled "From Catalyst to Transformation: A Chief Diversity Officer's Vision for Driving Diversity to the Core of the Academy."
