Scholarships and Awards

Scholarships
The University of Minnesota seeks to attract and retain talented and motivated students who can contribute to the University and benefit from an education. To this end, the University awards a range of scholarships intended to recognize and encourage excellence in academic performance, leadership, and civic engagement. All scholarships require that recipients maintain a specified level of academic performance. We work to provide students with information about these scholarships, as well as internships and research programs.

Josie R. Johnson Human Rights and Social Justice Award
The Josie R. Johnson Award was established in honor of Dr. Josie R. Johnson in recognition of her lifelong contributions to human rights and social justice, which guided her work with the civil rights movement, years of community service, and tenure at the University of Minnesota.

The award seeks to honor one University of Minnesota faculty or staff member and one student who, through their principles and practices, exemplify Dr. Johnson’s standard of excellence in creating respectful and inclusive living, learning, and working environments.

Schochet GLBT Research Award
In recognition of the importance of retaining a diverse faculty and of promoting research on a broad array of diversity issues, we are pleased to announce that we are initiating the Schochet GLBT Research Awards.  The Schochet research awards will support research and scholarly inquiry addressing GLBT issues, broadly defined.  This research award initiative fulfills an expressed interest of Steven J. Schochet as part of his efforts establishing an endowment here at the University of Minnesota to support not only programming, but also research, on GLBT issues.
