OED and Target present career networking reception for diverse students: On November 19, the Office for Equity and Diversity, in partnership with Target, will host the first-ever Diversity Networking Reception for diverse undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota. The is designed to allow students to connect and build relationships with organizations that embrace and promote diversity. Held in conjunction with the annual Equity and Diversity Breakfast, the Diversity Networking Reception is a great opportunity to connect with employers personally. Our Diverse World Forum: On November 20, 2009 the Institute for Diversity Equity, and Advocacy (IDEA) co-sponsored a forum entitled "Our Diverse World: Making a Case for Distinctiveness and Dynamic Dialogue between Multicultural and International Education" with the Office for the Senior Vice President for System Administration, the Office for International Programs, and the System-wide Equity and Diversity Action Network. The forum featured Damon Williams, Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate at UW-Madison, with responses from Rusty Barceló, Vice President and Vice Provost for Equity & Diversity, and Meredith McQuaid, Associate Vice President and Dean for International Programs. Speakers addressed the need to cultivate common ground and maintain the distinctiveness of international and multicultural education efforts. 2009 Equity and Diversity Breakfast: On Thursday, November 19, the University’s second annual Equity and Diversity Breakfast brought 500 people from across the University of Minnesota system and from Minnesota communities to McNamara Center to celebrate and strengthen campus and community relationships and support for the University’s equity and diversity work.
Twelve students were honored with 2009 SEED (Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity) Awards for their outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to equity, diversity, and social justice: graduate student Juliana Hu Pegues, and undergraduate students Ifeanyirochukwu Anwah Ochuko, Leon Binitie-Cassidy, Krystal Bradford, Christopher Davila, Pa Lee, Asha Sharma, Thomas Toley, Allison Witham, Yee Xiong, Yuridia Ramirez, and Thuy Nguyen-Tran.
The School of Dentistry received the 2009 Equity and Diversity Outstanding Unit Award for exemplary leadership on equity and diversity in education, research, and civic engagement.
